Several Asian countries have confirmed cases of Bird Flu (or Avian Flu), including Indonesia, Turkey, Vietnam, China and Cambodia.

The WHO reports, that all evidence indicates that patients have acquired the bird flu following close contact with diseased poultry.

The WHO reports further that during the avian H5N1 outbreaks in Asia, behaviours that carry an especially high risk of bird flu infection include the slaughtering, and preparation for consumption of diseased poultry. These behaviours tend to occur most frequently in rural areas where people traditionally often slaughter and eat birds once deaths or signs of illness have occurred.
